Currently, KIEP owns modern technologies in the field of design and construction of nuclear and thermal power plants, and also works in several fields related to the operation of nuclear and thermal power plants. KIEP provides a full range of services, which includes the implementation of pre-design work, the development of integrated project documentation, construction support, engineering support for nuclear power plants and thermal power plants at all stages of their operation life cycle.
The development of projects for the disposal of radioactive waste and the safe management of spent nuclear fuel at nuclear power plants are some of the key fields of KIEP’s activity. The Institute carries out projects for the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in Ukraine, implements the most advanced technologies that ensure maximum safety and minimal environmental impact.
The KIEP project, which is of national importance for Ukraine, the Central Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF), is being implemented to solve the problem of storage of spent nuclear fuel of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. CSFSF is being constructed based on a project approved by the Ukrainian government with the engineering support of KIEP. Commissioning of CSFSF is planned in 2021.
KIEP is now involved in several large Ukrainian projects related to the creation of complexes for the processing of solid radioactive waste at Ukrainian nuclear power plants. One of such complexes was commissioned at Rivne Nuclear Power Plant in 2018, and another similar project at Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant is at the stage of the procurement of the equipment and the development of documentation for the construction. Commissioning of the complex for radioactive waste processing at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant is planned in 2021.
